Foldable Learning Tower
Foldable Learning Tower for Small Kitchens – Slim Toddler Kitchen Helper
Slim is a foldable learning tower designed for small kitchens, flats, and modern family homes. This wooden toddler kitchen helper folds to just 12 cm, supports up to 95 kg, and gives children from 18 months a safe way to participate in everyday kitchen life — from cooking and baking to washing hands independently.
You do not have room for another piece of furniture in the kitchen. You already know that. But you also do not want to lift your child to the sink ten times a day, hold them on your hip while you cook, or watch them balance on an unstable chair because they want to be part of what is happening.
The most compact foldable learning tower on the market — a Montessori learning tower that grows with your child and fits any home. Folded, it is just 12 cm wide — it fits behind a door, along a narrow wall, or inside a cupboard. Unfolded, it is a complete and stable foldable toddler tower with adjustable platform height, safety rail, and a load capacity of 95 kg — enough for you to stand on as a kitchen step stool.
Made from solid wood and birch plywood in Europe. CE certified. Directly from Barin Toys' own workshop. A piece of furniture with no retirement age.
Slim in numbers
A toddler kitchen helper stool in solid wood — here is what makes Slim different from everything else in the category:
The most compact foldable learning tower on the market
Most foldable learning towers fold to 16–22 cm. Slim folds to 12 cm. That sounds like a small difference — but it is precisely the difference between fitting behind a standard door and not. As a folding kitchen helper, foldable kitchen tower, and compact kitchen helper tower, Slim is the narrowest solution available.
95 kg — because the kitchen asks that of everyone
Every kitchen has overhead cupboards. The pans, the grains, the things out of reach — and the dust that gathers on top. Getting up there requires something to stand on.
Slim holds 95 kg — enough for you to stand steadily while reaching the top shelf, putting away heavy pans, or wiping down the tops of the kitchen cabinets. A kitchen step stool, foldable kitchen helper stool, and wooden step for adults — that is also your child's toddler kitchen helper every morning.
Most foldable learning towers on the market are tested to 50 kg. Slim is tested to 95 kg.
What your child does every day
A foldable learning tower from 18 months is not a piece of furniture brought out occasionally. It becomes part of the daily rhythm:
Unlike bulky plastic alternatives, Slim is a solid wood kitchen helper stool built to become part of everyday family life. Whether you call it a learning tower, a wooden kitchen tower, or a toddler kitchen helper — the purpose is the same: giving children a safe, independent place at worktop height so they can participate in real tasks, not imitations of them. As a solid wood foldable kitchen tower, Slim sits in a category of its own.
Stability — what the construction does, and what you do
Slim is engineered so that natural design principles actively resist tipping. Three things on your side make the difference:
Stripe or Slim — what is the difference?
Both are wooden learning towers from Barin Toys. The choice comes down to your child's age and your kitchen:
Find your Slim
Slim comes in four finishes — all with the same construction, the same 95 kg, the same 12 cm:
Have room for a fixed model? Stripe has a 360° permanent safety rail and three fixed platforms — the trusted choice from 12 months for families with larger kitchens.

Frequently asked questions about Slim
Is a foldable learning tower as stable as a fixed one?
Slim is engineered so that the design itself resists tipping. At 95 kg load capacity the construction is significantly overbuilt for everyday use by a toddler. The key difference from Stripe is not stability but the safety rail: Stripe has a fixed 360° rail, Slim has a folding rail. From 18 months, Slim is fully safe with correct use. Two things make the biggest difference: set the platform at your child's waist height or slightly above, and push the tower flush against the worktop during use — the worktop acts as a natural backstop.
How much space does Slim take up when folded away?
Folded, Slim is 12 cm wide. A standard door takes up 3–5 cm when open — Slim fits in that gap, which is the most natural storage spot in any kitchen. Most competing foldable towers fold to 16–22 cm. Those extra centimetres matter in a small flat. Slim is the narrowest foldable learning tower currently available.
From what age can my child use Slim?
From around 18 months — once your child can stand steadily and has enough balance to climb up independently. For children from 12 months we recommend Stripe, which has a fixed 360° safety rail designed for the youngest toddlers who are just finding their feet. Slim has no upper age limit — families decide that themselves.
Can adults use Slim too?
Yes — that is a deliberate part of the design. Slim holds 95 kg, which means most adults can stand on it safely to reach high shelves, top cupboards, or the space above kitchen cabinets. Most foldable learning towers on the market are tested to 50 kg. Slim was built to carry the whole family.
What makes Slim different from other foldable learning towers?
Three things together that we have not seen combined elsewhere: 12 cm folded width — the narrowest on the market; 95 kg load capacity — the only foldable tower that adults can use as a kitchen step; solid wood made in Europe, sold directly from our own workshop without importers or distributors. Each of these exists on other products individually. Together they do not.
The construction is built around natural physical principles. Slim uses a stop-and-brace mechanism — no grooves, no notches, no parts that wear down over time. The resistance that holds the tower in position comes from the geometry of the joint itself, not from added components. This is a deliberate design choice: the simplest construction has the longest working life. There is nothing to strip, nothing to loosen, nothing to replace.
Does the folding mechanism hold up with daily use?
The mechanism is designed for daily use year after year. We recommend checking the fittings periodically, as with any actively used wooden furniture.
Practical tip: At first assembly, once you have found the exact resistance that works for you, apply a small amount of medium-strength thread locker (Loctite 243 is widely available) to the joint. Allow it to cure. The mechanism will hold at exactly that tension indefinitely — no further adjustment needed.
Is the paint safe, and how do I clean Slim?
All painted surfaces use water-based, CE-approved paint with no harmful chemicals — safe for daily contact. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. The Slim Authentic variant is untreated solid wood — it can be oiled with linseed oil or left as is. Solid wood can be lightly sanded and re-treated if deeper marks appear over time.
